John Van Camp
John Van Camp is a seasoned industrial relations professional with a notable career in both trade union leadership and corporate management. He served as Victorian State Secretary of the Federated Engine Drivers and Fireman’s Association (FEDFA) and later transitioned into the private sector joining construction giant Grocon, one of Australia’s leading construction and development companies at the time.
During his tenure with Grocon, John was tasked with regaining control of the construction business which over a period of time had been influenced by the CFMEU one of Australia’s largest and most influential trade unions. One of the key objectives was to make Grocon independent of CFMEU control and make the business efficient and productive to an on time and on budget delivery. He was instrumental in developing and implementing strategies that improved workplace safety and fostered a culture of compliance and employee engagement. The success of Grocon at that time, can be attributed to John’s comittment and corporate responsibility, bridging the gap between union advocacy and corporate governance in Australia’s industrial landscape.
